TRIAC stands for Triode for Alternating Current used to control power, when used in lighting fixtures, it’s commonly known as “TRIAC dimming”. TRIAC devices are very common in AC power control applications. They have the ability to switch high voltages and very high levels of current in two parts of an AC waveform. They are often used as a dimming source in domestic and commercial lighting applications, and can also serve as a power control in motors.
